He was up for the challenge of the movie and he loved it. We have a small TV and as a precaution I played it at a lower volume so it wouldn’t be overwhelming. I’ve read the book so I knew what we were in for, so I would pause before I thought anything bad would happen and talked about what we were about to see. We paused the movie throughout whenever he had a question, whether it was about the harsh realities of frontier life, mistreatment of Native Americans, the realities of dog fighting and violence against animals. He’s also rather sensitive to sad and scary scenes in movies (he can’t get through finding Nemo), but he’s also interested in history and has heard about MLK, Iqbal Masih and Malala Yousafzai in school already, so he’s familiar with historical violence and injustices. I watched this with my almost 6 year old, who is really into animals and nature.
